The UK National Lottery has been creating millionaires since it was established, but it seems 2016 was their greatest year ever. Information released by a lottery operator in the United Kingdom, Camelot, indicates that this year the National Lottery managed to hit its all-time best, producing 347 millionaires which translate to almost one millionaire every day. The record was set at 341 in 2015, but it seems the National Lottery is getting bigger and better.
Winners who scooped the million dollar lottery received checks of £1 million or more and a total of $1.06 billion, or £862m was won. It is interesting to know that all these happened amidst the controversial changes made by Lotto. Lotto reduced the number of balls involved in the game from 59 to 49 and the chance of winning a jackpot changed from one in 14 million to one in 45 million.
The Senior Winner’s advisor, Andy Carter said that the 12 months of 2016 had been great and more people have managed to walk away with fat checks that have totally changed their lives. He stated that the Lottery has not only managed to change live of the winners but that of the general population through the various sponsored projects.
Information from Camelot indicated that EuroMillions increased per line with an impressive 50% to £2.50 after the new changes were made and a new lucky star number introduced. The data from Camelot shows that the luckiest professions were lorry and cab drivers with manufacturing and sales workers in the third position followed closely by teachers. The month of September was epic with more than 53 players becoming millionaires.
